MASCARA MARCH – Velvet Volume False Lash Effect Mascara by Max Factor

This mascara guys.  This is my ride or die. I want to give a shout out to Vogue Australia for providing this as a freebie on their magazine one month.  Since the day I purchased that magazine I have been hooked on Max Factor’s Velvet Volume mascara; it is true love. Read on to find out why…

Volume: It gives a soft and natural volume that my long spindly lashes crave.  Adding a thickness to the base of your lashes that makes you look like your lashes are always that gorgeously dense. Max Factor claims it leaves your lashes with a “touchably soft feel”, and I totally agree.

Length: Does it really look like you have falsies on like the name suggests? Imma be honest, it doesn’t.  It’s not length to the extremes of say They’re Real by Benefit, but it still gives you some serious extension on your regular lashes.  Again, it’s a natural finish.  Something I personally prefer, especially for every day.

Colour: Usually I’m after a black-as-my-soul kinda colour to my mascaras.  This doesn’t deliver that level of pigment, it’s a softer black.  This has reminded me why I went through a stage of wearing brown mascaras for everyday.  This muted black makes this mascara perfect for everyday looks as well as those ‘no-makeup-makeup’ days; just added a subtle pop to your eyes.

Recommend? ’til the day I die.  People need to get around this mascara, make it huge, it’s amazing!! I honestly can’t say enough great things about it. LOVE! 10/10. 100%. Would recommend to a friend. A+. High Distinction.  etc.

Keep tuned for more Mascara March reviews!

MASCARA MARCH – I Heart Extreme Volume Waterproof Mascara by Essence

Hello beauties!

Can you believe that it is already March?! Wasn’t it new year’s eve only last week? Apparently not. Anyway…

We’ve decided to use March  to review as many of the mascaras in our collection as we can! Why? Because we have a lot of mascaras and also, alliteration is fun.

So without further ado, the first competitor off blocks is the I Heart Extreme Volume waterproof mascara by Essence.

The short and sweet of it is this: for AU$5.75, this mascara is the bomb. Is it the best mascara I have ever used? Negative.  It is, however, a very good mascara.

Its jet black pigment makes both your eyes and your eye makeup pop.  The volume is also not bad and it also lengthens my lashes really nicely! There’s also the added bonus of it being waterproof!

What else can you ask for in a mascara? I used this on a friend recently when I did her wedding makeup as I knew it would make her eyes look amazing and last through any happy-tears during the ceremony.  The only time it has ever flaked is when I have had a nap in it…and really that’s on me.

Recommend? Highly.  And, hell, if you don’t like it, you only spent $6.

Happy Mascara March beauties!

REVIEW: Skinstitut Skincare

Revamping your skincare routine is daunting, but sometimes necessary. Changes in weather, life and generally just skin deciding it’s kinda done with your usual routine, can call for a change of scenery. Not sure where to even start? Well we’ve been doing some testing for you, so you can skip past the trial and error stage and get straight to the radiant skin.

We’ve been lucky enough to receive quite a few products from Skinstitut, and have been testing them out over the last few months. We’re finally ready to give you our thoughts on the products we have used so far:

Hydration

Moisture Defence

I really liked this moisturiser. I mostly used it with a drop or two of skin oil mixed in (such as rosehip or vitamin e), but even on its own it was quite hydrating.

It is advertised as being for normal skin to hydrate, smooth and reduce the appearance of wrinkles through ingredients such as Kakadu plum extract. I don’t think it will work for people with dry skin, it’s too lightweight to really nourish dehydrated skin, but for my combination skin in summer it was perfect. If your skin in oily or normal, I definitely recommend giving this a go.

Multi-Active Oil

Firstly, this stuff smells amazing. I would use it as a perfume as I could. I’ve noticed a huge difference after incorporating this into my skincare routine. Just as Skinstitut promises, there has been visible improvement in the radiance in my skin, to the point that I was once mistaken for wearing foundation when I was bare skinned! WHAT! GUYS THAT’S THE DREAM!

This stuff is brilliant and I’ll definitely be purchasing it in the future.

Age Defence SPF 50+

I am pretty much always on the lookout for new sun protectant option for my pasty pasty skin, so this definitely piqued my interest. Skinstitut advertises this as a 2hr water resistance, broad spectrum sunscreen that will protect against UVA an UVB rays whilst hydrating and boosting your skin with antioxidants.

It did stop me from getting sunburnt, for longer than two hours. I wore it on bushwalks and at the beach, as well as under makeup on long days in the sun and it did its job. My skin felt hydrated and protected. However, as can happen with suncreams, it made my skin break out a bit. Nothing major, but there was one whopping pimple that would not go away, and that made me not want to use this product again. If you have seriously dry skin this is probably for you.

Multi-Active Mist

This has become a new obsession. I have kept this in my handbag through the long Sydney summer since the day that I got it. I apply it morning and night (and let’s be honest, throughout the day) and instantly feel more fresh and hydrated! This is bomb. You need it.

Cleansers

L-Lactic Cleanser

I love trying out new cleansers, and this one was quite different! It looks like a gel but feels quite creamy, odd, but I liked it. I went through this quite fast as it came flowing out of the tube quite fast, a fact that I seemed to forget every single day and resulted in me using far more than was necessary.

It is boasted as hydrating, exfoliating and refining your skin in one step, and I think it did just that…mostly. The exfoliation is obviously not going to be as dramatic as a scrub, but it did smooth my skin. I also sometimes used it with my cleansing brush and it worked really well that way too. As for taking off makeup, it is a champ! And I always love a cleanser that removes my makeup in one go.

All in all, big thumbs up from me!

Glycolic Cleanser 12%

(NB: Skinstitut does not recommend this product for irritated or sensitive skin)

I have already gone through one of these and, considering the size of the tube, I think that is quite the feat! I can feel it tingling (but nothing too harsh) on my face straight away and my skin looks brighter and more even in appearance when I use it. I find that I can use it every day, even thought I have very dry skin, as it helps to remove the dry skin cells that can sometimes clog my pores and leave me looking extremely dull.

Skinstitut also recommends using this as an overnight spot treatment on any stubborn blemishes, which I haven’t tried yet but I am definitely keen to give it a go! I am on my second tube and can’t see myself stopping any time soon.

Exfoliants

Glycolic Scrub 14%

(NB: Skinstitut does not recommend this product for irritated or sensitive skin)

Skinstitut claims that this scrub helps with skin renewal and unclogging pores with ingredients such as Glycolic acid, jojoba beads and tea tree oil. Does this happen in real life?

Like the Glycolic cleanser you can feel the scrub working away as soon as you apply it, my favourite way to use this is to gently massage it into my face, shoulder and décolleté and leave it for a bit whilst I do something else. It’s already helped massively with some small stubborn whitehead on my shoulders and I’ve only been using this for a week.

Masks

Hydrating Mask

I love using this mask as a quick pick-me-up. Because you only need to keep it on for ten minutes, it’s a quick and easy way to incorporate a mask into a busy and stressful day. After I remove it, my skin feels more bouncy (for lack of a better word) and refreshed. I’ve already given this as a gift and would definitely purchase one in the future.

Enzymatic Micro Peel

I’m normally quite cautious that have ‘peel’ in the name, as I’ve had bad experiences as looking like a lobster the day after. As I cautiously applied this peel for the first time, I noticed straight away that this would be different; it’s so gentle, yet you can still feel it working, and I do notice that my skin is brighter after use.

I’ve only used this a handful of times as I was so cautious when we first received it but I can definitely see myself continuing to use it from now on.

A huge thank you to Elise Garland Public Relations and Skinstitut for these products. We are so lucky to have received these products, however all of our opinions are our own; we pride ourselves on our honesty.

Stay beautiful, N & M x

Peachy Valentine’s Day Makeup

Hey babe, grab a glass of wine and sit back and relax while we take you through our V-Day makeup look for 2017 featuring the Too Faced Sweet Peach Eyeshadow palette.

In all honesty, we will both be sitting on the couch with our mum and dog and wearing comfy pjs but hey… we think this makeup would work for any date night or special occasion.

The Base:

For this look we wanted to stick to products we know and love and create a flawless, fresh base. To prime N’s skin we used the Nars Radiance Primer (which we believe has been repackaged… does anyone know?) which is a beautiful glowy primer with some SPF to help if you are on a daytime date. To even out the complexion we used N’s holy grail drugstore foundation, Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation with round top buffing brush. For undereye concealer we used the Bare Minerals BareSkin complete cover concealer with a beauty sponge and set that and N’s T-Zone with a small eyeshadow brush and the E.L.F Undereye Setting Powder (seriously the best glowy powder!).

The Brows:

To lightly fill in N’s brows we used the MAC Eyebrows pencil in the shade Lingering and set them with our favourite brow gel of the moment, the Rimmel Clear Brow Gel.

The Face:

To Contour a little bit we used a new(ish) favourite of ours, The Balm Bahama Mama bronzer on a tapered face brush under N’s cheek bones and along the sides of her nose. Then to warm up her skin and give it an even glowier look we used our favourite Too Faced Sweet Tea bronzer (available in Mecca stores) around the perimeters of her face and through her cheeks and topped that with Tarte Blush in the shade True Love (how fitting) on the apples of her cheeks for the ultimate girly blush. For a peachy highlight to compliment the upcoming eye look we used the peach shade from the Sleek Solstice palette. And voila! Your complexion is super girly and glowy!

The Eyes:

To prime N’s eyes we used the MAC Prep and Prime 24HR Extend Eye Base from lash line to brow bone and set it with the peaches & cream shade from the Too Faced Sweet Peach Palette. We ran Georgia through and just above the crease  to create a nice transition and then put Candied Peach directly through the crease and under the lower lashes. Then we used Just Peachy quite liberally through the entire lid and in to the outer-v of the eye. To top it all off we used the shade Luscious on the inner third of the of the upper and lower lid. We decided to not go too dark or anything with this look as we wanted to keep it light and feminine.

For mascara we used one we got in our Mecca Beauty Loop Level 3 box, Urban Decay Perversion Mascara. This is such an amazing mascara! Can’t wait to keep trying this out!

Finally, we used the same peachy shade from the Sleek Solstice palette to highlight the inner corners of N’s eyes and her brow bone.

The Lips:

Chi Chi has some of the most creamy, pigmented liners that we have ever come across, and they’re only $9.95!! We used the shade Shy Girl to outline and fill in N’s lips. Because they are so creamy and long lasting we decided to just top them off with the Rimmel Oh My Gloss in Crystal Clear and call it a day. We think they turned out absolutely stunning, so lushes and will last through all your nights activities ;).

Whatever you’re doing this Valentine’s Day enjoy, look after yourself, stay Happy and remember how fantastic you are!

N & M xx
