REVIEW: Biology Skincare – Bare Essentials Travel Kit

I love travel kits and travel-sized cosmetics and skincare in general.  They’re fun and cute and so handy! Knowing which of the many travel-ready products on the market are for you can be tricky! So let me take a little of the guess work out of it for you with a review of the Bare Essentials Travel Kit by Biology Skincare.

THE BRAND

Biology is an Australian body and hair care brand that specialises in “naked formulas” free from harmful chemicals and fillers; “it’s not just about what we put in, it’s about what we leave out”.  I am always keen to try out natural products! If I can overhaul my beauty routine completely and go au natural that would be fantastic! So let’s see how these stood up to the task…

THE PACKAGING

First of all, the packaging is just so damn cute.  I love it.  It’s got a olde timey alchemist vibe about it whilst also being fresh and modern.  How a product is going to look sitting in my bathroom is something I look for! Whether that is vain and pathetic or not.

THE PRODUCTS

The travel kit comes with 5 different products, for hair and body, and will set you back AU$50.

No. 301 Pure Hydration Shampoo & No. 302 Pure Hydration Conditioner

These were, I’ll admit, better than I thought they were going to be! My experience with natural shampoo and conditioners hasn’t been great; I’m usually left with dry and limp hair that tangles easily.  These were a pleasant surprise! Were they the best products I’ve ever used on my hair? No.  But they did the job! My Hair was left clean, somewhat hydrated and tangle free.  As an added bonus they smelled amazing!

Repurchase? For travel, sure! You can get the kit on its own for AU$24 here.

No. 303 Moisture Therapy Body Wash

This was kind of a miss for me. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that it did anything bad, it just didn’t do anything right either.  My skin was clean, which I definitely want from a body wash, but it also felt dry and tight which is never a nice feeling.

Repurchase? I don’t think so. However, if you would like to try it out you can purchase it on its own in a larger form for $27 here.

No. 304 Moisture Therapy Body Lotion

I wasn’t expecting to like this after my experience with the body wash, but this lotion was lovely! It smelled like lemongrass and was so hydrating and soothing.  I ended up keeping it next to my bed to lather myself up of a nighttime, the scent was so calming and it left my skin feeling soft and supple without feeling sticky.  I actually miss it now that it’s gone!

Repurchase? Definitely! I am keen to try more of the lotions and creams from Biology after loving this so much. You can purchase the body lotion is a larger size on its own for AU$29 here.

No. 305 Moisture Therapy Body Bar

This really surprised me with how well it performed! My armpits in particular loved it; gentle exfoliation whilst maintaining moisture levels had my armpits looking straight out of a deoderant ad! I also randomly used it to clean my makeup brushes when i was in a pinch and boy howdy, it cleaned them AMAZINGLY! So quick and kept them soft, move of sold beauty blender cleanser, there’s a new sheriff in town.

Repurchase? Sure! You can purchase it on its own for AU$12 here.

THE CONCLUSION

Is this something I would consider investing in for travel? Yes! It’s lightweight, the products (for the most part) perform really well, and it looks cute af so that’s always a bonus. I definitely recommend this kit, especially if you’re trying to keep your skincare and beauty routine natural.

You can purchase the travel kit here.

REVIEW: Skinstitut Skincare

Revamping your skincare routine is daunting, but sometimes necessary. Changes in weather, life and generally just skin deciding it’s kinda done with your usual routine, can call for a change of scenery. Not sure where to even start? Well we’ve been doing some testing for you, so you can skip past the trial and error stage and get straight to the radiant skin.

We’ve been lucky enough to receive quite a few products from Skinstitut, and have been testing them out over the last few months. We’re finally ready to give you our thoughts on the products we have used so far:

Hydration

Moisture Defence

I really liked this moisturiser. I mostly used it with a drop or two of skin oil mixed in (such as rosehip or vitamin e), but even on its own it was quite hydrating.

It is advertised as being for normal skin to hydrate, smooth and reduce the appearance of wrinkles through ingredients such as Kakadu plum extract. I don’t think it will work for people with dry skin, it’s too lightweight to really nourish dehydrated skin, but for my combination skin in summer it was perfect. If your skin in oily or normal, I definitely recommend giving this a go.

Multi-Active Oil

Firstly, this stuff smells amazing. I would use it as a perfume as I could. I’ve noticed a huge difference after incorporating this into my skincare routine. Just as Skinstitut promises, there has been visible improvement in the radiance in my skin, to the point that I was once mistaken for wearing foundation when I was bare skinned! WHAT! GUYS THAT’S THE DREAM!

This stuff is brilliant and I’ll definitely be purchasing it in the future.

Age Defence SPF 50+

I am pretty much always on the lookout for new sun protectant option for my pasty pasty skin, so this definitely piqued my interest. Skinstitut advertises this as a 2hr water resistance, broad spectrum sunscreen that will protect against UVA an UVB rays whilst hydrating and boosting your skin with antioxidants.

It did stop me from getting sunburnt, for longer than two hours. I wore it on bushwalks and at the beach, as well as under makeup on long days in the sun and it did its job. My skin felt hydrated and protected. However, as can happen with suncreams, it made my skin break out a bit. Nothing major, but there was one whopping pimple that would not go away, and that made me not want to use this product again. If you have seriously dry skin this is probably for you.

Multi-Active Mist

This has become a new obsession. I have kept this in my handbag through the long Sydney summer since the day that I got it. I apply it morning and night (and let’s be honest, throughout the day) and instantly feel more fresh and hydrated! This is bomb. You need it.

Cleansers

L-Lactic Cleanser

I love trying out new cleansers, and this one was quite different! It looks like a gel but feels quite creamy, odd, but I liked it. I went through this quite fast as it came flowing out of the tube quite fast, a fact that I seemed to forget every single day and resulted in me using far more than was necessary.

It is boasted as hydrating, exfoliating and refining your skin in one step, and I think it did just that…mostly. The exfoliation is obviously not going to be as dramatic as a scrub, but it did smooth my skin. I also sometimes used it with my cleansing brush and it worked really well that way too. As for taking off makeup, it is a champ! And I always love a cleanser that removes my makeup in one go.

All in all, big thumbs up from me!

Glycolic Cleanser 12%

(NB: Skinstitut does not recommend this product for irritated or sensitive skin)

I have already gone through one of these and, considering the size of the tube, I think that is quite the feat! I can feel it tingling (but nothing too harsh) on my face straight away and my skin looks brighter and more even in appearance when I use it. I find that I can use it every day, even thought I have very dry skin, as it helps to remove the dry skin cells that can sometimes clog my pores and leave me looking extremely dull.

Skinstitut also recommends using this as an overnight spot treatment on any stubborn blemishes, which I haven’t tried yet but I am definitely keen to give it a go! I am on my second tube and can’t see myself stopping any time soon.

Exfoliants

Glycolic Scrub 14%

(NB: Skinstitut does not recommend this product for irritated or sensitive skin)

Skinstitut claims that this scrub helps with skin renewal and unclogging pores with ingredients such as Glycolic acid, jojoba beads and tea tree oil. Does this happen in real life?

Like the Glycolic cleanser you can feel the scrub working away as soon as you apply it, my favourite way to use this is to gently massage it into my face, shoulder and décolleté and leave it for a bit whilst I do something else. It’s already helped massively with some small stubborn whitehead on my shoulders and I’ve only been using this for a week.

Masks

Hydrating Mask

I love using this mask as a quick pick-me-up. Because you only need to keep it on for ten minutes, it’s a quick and easy way to incorporate a mask into a busy and stressful day. After I remove it, my skin feels more bouncy (for lack of a better word) and refreshed. I’ve already given this as a gift and would definitely purchase one in the future.

Enzymatic Micro Peel

I’m normally quite cautious that have ‘peel’ in the name, as I’ve had bad experiences as looking like a lobster the day after. As I cautiously applied this peel for the first time, I noticed straight away that this would be different; it’s so gentle, yet you can still feel it working, and I do notice that my skin is brighter after use.

I’ve only used this a handful of times as I was so cautious when we first received it but I can definitely see myself continuing to use it from now on.

A huge thank you to Elise Garland Public Relations and Skinstitut for these products. We are so lucky to have received these products, however all of our opinions are our own; we pride ourselves on our honesty.

Dry Skincare Routine

Finding the right skincare routine for you can be a drag. As most of you know, I suffer with super dry, dehydrated skin. It’s also quite freckly and dull and I’ve always struggled to find the right mix of products to tackle these issues. I finally feel happy with my skincare routine and thought I would share it with you with the hope that it will help some of you with similar issues.

Cleanser:

I was sent the Skinstitut Glycolic Cleanser for reviewing purposes a few months ago and am pleased to say I think I have found the perfect dry skin cleanser! It is so brightening and I sometimes use it to remove makeup too (which it does an awesome job of)! I absolutely love this cleanser! Big thumbs up from me!

Scrub:

The Neutrogena Naturals Purifying Pore Scrub is another newer product that I love for my sin type! I use it about every second or third day depending on how my skin is feeling and it does a great job of cleaning my skin out without sucking all the moisture out at the same time! It has jojoba oil in it too which makes it nice and moisturising!

Toner:

I am absolutely in love with the Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs and Rosewater! It is super hydrating and I use it both morning and night (and sometimes during the day as a refresher) as toner and I’ll definitely keep repurchasing it!

Oil:

I have fallen in love with the Skinstitut Multi-Active Oil after I was sent it in a PR package! It contains lots of lovely oils that brighten and hydrate my skin unlike any other serum or oil I have tried! I apply it both morning and night to my face and neck and let that sink in before I apply moisturiser.

Moisturiser:

An old favourite of mine is the Cetaphil Moisturising Cream for dry, sensitive skin! I have pretty sensitive skin and suffer from a few allergies that make my skin flare up so this is my favourite moisturiser for calming everything down and keeping my face moisturised all day – especially with the help of the Skinstitut oil! It’s also super cheap so you can’t really go wrong!

Eye Cream:

The Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Eye Concentrate is, as you can tell from the title, meant to be only used at night but I find it so moisturising that I use it both morning and night! Kathleen Lights got me on to this just over a year ago and I haven’t looked back! Sooooooo good!

SPF:

I use the La Roche-Posay 50+ very high protection stick every morning because it isn’t at all sticky or greasy and doesn’t make my makeup look weird over the top! I can’t find the stick form online but I bought it at Priceline and you can buy the liquid version which is just as nice here.

Lip Balm:

The Vanny P lip balms are created by a small business in Western Australia with all natural ingredients! At the moment I am loving the Floral Passion scent for a bit of spring loving!

Night Cream:

You have most likely heard me rave about the Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask before – but it’s for good reason I promise! This product has absolutely changed my skin! You will wakeup feeling so hydrated and refreshed after using this, I promise! I sometimes use it on days when I’m feeling extra dry and am not wearing makeup too, it’s just that good!

Cleansing Mask:

The Tru Self Organics Detoxifying Mask is my absolute favourite clay face mask of all time! If I ever have a pimple I mix this up, pop it on for 20 minutes and once I have rinsed it off my skin looks 1000 times better! It isn’t too drying either so it’s safe to use if you are really dry!

Moisturising Mask:

This is the final Skinstitut product in this post I swear! Their Hydrating Mask is out of this world! If you are having a flare up of flakeyness or skin irritation chuck this on and you feel at least a million times better!

I know it might seem like a lot to do but trust me, for anyone who has dry, irritated skin you know how much it is worth getting rid of dry patches! Using these products will not only make your skin more radiant and hydrated but your makeup will sit on it so much better and look amazing!

I hope this has helped at least some of you!

Stay Happy,

M xx

Review: Moreish Skincare

One of my favourite things about being a beauty blogger is having an excuse to try out new products, even when there was nothing wrong with the ones I was already using. In the case of Moreish skincare, all it took was a small sale at Priceline and some super cute packaging. I mean really, look at it, that was always going to look amaze in my bathroom!

IMG_0837_2

Moreish is a New Zealand brand making skincare from pure superfoods such as argan oil, avocado and kiwi fruit. The whole idea behind their brand? “It’s called Moreish because your skin can’t get enough of it.” They are all things I like in a skincare brand, so I bought up. I gave my skincare routine an overhaul with their cream cleanser, day cream, eye cream and argan oil. Keep reading to see what I thought…

Euphoria | Cream Cleanser 200mL

Of all the products I purchased this was the biggest let down for me. The reason? Well it claims to remove makeup…it doesn’t. It took me several washes and even then it wasn’t all gone, even when I added bi-carb as my exfoliant. If that’s not really your thing anyway, this was actually a really lovely cleanser. Light-weight, non-drying and my skin seemed to love it.

Would I re-purchase? No. But only because I’m lazy and want a one-step cleanser.

Daily Redemption | Day Cream

When I first used this cream I did not hold high hopes. It’s super lightweight, and I expected that to result in my skin feeling dry and irritated. I am pleased to say I was wrong! This product was great. I mostly used it mixed in with a drop or two of argan oil, and it kept my skin feeling lovely all day long. It also worked well under makeup, really moisturising and preparing my skin for the base products. All it all I really liked it. I probably wouldn’t recommend this to people with exceptionally dry skin (mine is dry, but not overly so), but everyone else, I really liked it!!

Would I re-purchase? Yep! Definitely keeping an eye out for the next Priceline sale.

Reawaken | Eye Cream

This is probably my favourite product of the lot. It is super creamy, and I thought that was going to make it greasy and unpleasant, but (as seems to be a theme so far) I was wrong! It absorbs easily and left my usually dry and irritated eye area feeling nourished and moisturised. Big thumbs up from me. The only slight annoyance (and it’s small), it that the shape of the lid makes it really hard to open when you’ve recently moisturised your face! But really, it’s no big deal in the big scheme of life.

Would I repurchase? Definitely. Love it!

Liquid Gold | Pure Argan Oil

I am a very vocal member of the rosehip oil fan club, so it took a lot for me to even consider branching out and trying other facial oils. Initially, I thought I’d made a huge mistake; the oil felt very heavy on my skin and I had a couple of breakouts. I was on the verge of sticking this in the “disappointing products” pile when my skin changed its mind! Well, what actually happened was that the weather started to cool down and my skin became drier. Boy howdy, does dry skin love this stuff.   It kept my skin looking supple and moisturised all day long, and helped to boost my skins moisture and appearance when I wore it over night under a night cream. I am still unsure if I love it as much as rosehip oil, but I certainly do like it. I think this may be really beneficial for any dry skinned gals out there looking for a boost to their skincare routine.

Would I repurchase? Definitely!

So there were some hits and some misses in this range, but all in all I’m a fan of this brand! Have you tried any products from this range? Which would you recommend? Let me know in the comments below.
