MASCARA MARCH – Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1 Mascara by Tarte

Aside from the brilliant play of words Tarte used in the name of this mascara (love me a pun), the Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara boasts four major qualities; Tarte says this mascara is ” a lengthening, curling, volumizing, and conditioning mascara infused with olive esters to condition, treat, and protect lashes.”

One coat of Lights Camera Lashes

So how does it deliver on those four promised features?…

Volume: 10/10 on the volume front.  This baby turns it up to 11. I’m not sure how much the primer has to do with it; I have used the mascara on its own before and don’t notice much of a difference with the primer added into the equation.

Length: 8/10. Whilst it’s not the most lengthening mascara I own, it definitely provides dark pigment right to the very tip of my lashes and doesn’t wear off during the day. So all in all, it ain’t bad.

Curl: 12/10. This is my FAVOURITE mascara for giving my short lashes dat curl. I think this would be ideal for anyone that has down-turned or straight lashes as it maintains the curl throughout the whole day.  Add in an eyelash curler and you’ll have curl for days.

Conditioning: ?/10. Tbh, I haven’t noticed any difference in the condition of my lashes at all. Although, I’m not really sure what I’m looking for.  So imma leave this one blank.  It’s not like it made my lashes worse, like they didn’t fall out or anything though so…I look for that quality in a mascara.

(little extra note from me) Colour: This is the blackest mascara I own. All the pigment baby. It is just SO black.  I LOVE IT.

MASCARA MARCH – Volum’ Express The Falsies Waterproof Mascara

I’m not really sure why volume is spelled without an ‘e’ in the name of this mascara and I can’t stop thinking about it.  I think they’re trying to be French, but it’s Maybelline New York so who knows. Are they saying it so fast (express, if you will) that the ‘e’ fell off? Are they saying it like a pirate that moonlights as a MUA? Is it not even meant to be volume and it’s a whole other word that I don’t know?…Imma google it. Nope, only in French. I dunno, I don’t get it. Anyway, on with the review.

To avoid me going on and on about the disappearance of the e, I’ll hereafter refer to this mascara only as “The Flasies”.

I was nervous about this mascara.  The ads are so obviously not real lashes that I expected the results to be the exact opposite. I understand that it is called The Falsies, and it is meant to make your real lashes look like false lashes but they are straight up false lashes.

I bought this because I have a shopping problem and I convinced myself that I needed to buy it, use it once or twice and do a review. And, well, here we are! So maybe I don’t have a shopping problem after all! Woo!  On I shop.

Ain’t nobody got lashes like that IRL.

I was very pleasantly surprised that this is a mascara I can happily wear regularly! It can easily work with a lashy day look or a sexy night-time look, a trick that not all mascaras can pull off.

Volume (with an e): Maybelline tells me that this mascara has Kera-Fibres that bring all the volume, and they’re doing a pretty good job.  I have mascaras that give me more volume but for the price it volumises beautifully.

Length: This is where this mascara really shines.  Lashes for daysssss.  I have generally found it hard to get delivery on both volume and length from one mascara; I tend to use two to get the look I’m after.  But this mascara does both! Well done Maybelline! The best part? No clumping.

Colour: It’s black. What more can you ask for? It’s neither the most pigmented nor the dullest mascara I own.  And I’m okay with mediocre when it’s delivering so well in the other areas.

Recommend? Yes! When I started using this mascara again for this review I kept saying to myself “Why on earth don’t I wear this more often!”. If you want one mascara that looks natural for everyday but can give you the va-va-voom you’re after for nights out, then get this into your life.

MASCARA MARCH – Full Lash Bloom Waterproof Mascara by Covergirl

This mascara was a quick grab from the supermarket when I suddenly realised I didn’t have a waterproof mascara to take with me on my summer holidays last year. I wasn’t going to risk panda eyes in my tropical beach photos! Having always adored the spooly design of Covergirl mascaras I thought this was a sure thing, even though I hadn’t tried this particular formula before.

In my opinion, full lash bloom waterproof mascara is…meh.

Volume: As you can see in the photo volume is pretty much non-existent. That’s exactly what my lashes normally look like (just longer and blacker). So when they said “full lash bloom” they really meant “spindly lash bloom”.

Length: It does deliver on length! There is definite elongation of lashes.  However, as can be a problem with long thin lashes like mine, it clumps like a mofo. Which I hate.  After some combing with a eyebrow/eyelash brush or a clean spooly they separate to what you see in the photo, but honestly that is a step I would rather skip.

Colour: This they did not overexaggerate; when they said ‘very black’ they meant ‘very black’.  Which, as I’ve mentioned before, is what I’m all about. I may have long lashes but they’re not particularly dark, so I’m really after some pigment in my mascaras.

Recommend? If you have shorter, thicker lashes, this may well be right up your alley! However, if I’m perfectly honest, I think you can get better mascaras in the same price range (see our review on this $6 essence mascara for instance!). It’s not terrible, but it’s not good either, it’s just meh.

MASCARA MARCH – Velvet Volume False Lash Effect Mascara by Max Factor

This mascara guys.  This is my ride or die. I want to give a shout out to Vogue Australia for providing this as a freebie on their magazine one month.  Since the day I purchased that magazine I have been hooked on Max Factor’s Velvet Volume mascara; it is true love. Read on to find out why…

Volume: It gives a soft and natural volume that my long spindly lashes crave.  Adding a thickness to the base of your lashes that makes you look like your lashes are always that gorgeously dense. Max Factor claims it leaves your lashes with a “touchably soft feel”, and I totally agree.

Length: Does it really look like you have falsies on like the name suggests? Imma be honest, it doesn’t.  It’s not length to the extremes of say They’re Real by Benefit, but it still gives you some serious extension on your regular lashes.  Again, it’s a natural finish.  Something I personally prefer, especially for every day.

Colour: Usually I’m after a black-as-my-soul kinda colour to my mascaras.  This doesn’t deliver that level of pigment, it’s a softer black.  This has reminded me why I went through a stage of wearing brown mascaras for everyday.  This muted black makes this mascara perfect for everyday looks as well as those ‘no-makeup-makeup’ days; just added a subtle pop to your eyes.

Recommend? ’til the day I die.  People need to get around this mascara, make it huge, it’s amazing!! I honestly can’t say enough great things about it. LOVE! 10/10. 100%. Would recommend to a friend. A+. High Distinction.  etc.

Keep tuned for more Mascara March reviews!

Stay Happy,
