Juice Cleanse Challenge!

Us post juice cleanse.

Us post juice cleanse.

I’ve heard all about how a juice cleanse is the best way to rid your body of toxins and kick start a diet but I have always been a bit of a sceptic with this particular diet. Who actually wants cut out all solids for 3-5 days?!

Nobody, that’s who.

Facebook seems to be on my back about this one with the only ads on my feed lately being about how amazing juice cleanses are and how “I lost 5 kilos in 3 days! You can do it too!”. I wasn’t convinced until I opened this month’s OK Magazine and saw a two-page spread on “How to Cleanse” and how all the celebrities love it- and let’s be honest, if Jennifer Aniston said it works I had to give it a go; who doesn’t want to look like Rachel?

So, in the name of research, I decided I would give the infamous juice cleanse a go and invite you to give it a go with me. I’m going to start next Monday (October 6th 2014) and go until Wednesday on a 3-day juice cleanse and would love for us to do it together, encouraging each other along the way!

According to OK Magazine and many other websites the best way to start a juice cleanse is by drinking 8 glasses of water a day for the three days leading up to the cleanse and cutting out all junk food, alcohol and caffeine as well. So that starts tomorrow… goodbye coffee and chocolate covered raspberries, I’ll miss you!

The next step is to stock up our fridges with all of the fruity (and vegetabely) goodness to start making our juices on Monday. During the actual cleanse we are supposed to drink 6 juices a day with a 2 hour break between each drink so we are going to need a lot of fruity goodness. I’ve decided to go with a red, green, gold and yellow juice for my cleanse.

Here are the recipes and ingredients we will need.

Red Juice:
• 2 apples
• 3 carrots
• 1.5 beets
• 1 tablespoon ginger
• Half a lemon (juiced)
• 4 celery sticks

Green Juice:
• 4 celery sticks
• 1 cucumber
• 2 apples
• ¾ cup spinach
• 3 kale leaves
• 5 parsley ribs
• 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Gold Juice:
• 1/3 pineapple
• 3 apples
• 3 tablespoons mint finely chopped
• 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Yellow Juice:
• 3 tablespoons lemon
• ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
• 1 ¼ tablespoon raw honey
• 425mL water

So there we go… let’s drink heaps of water and prepare ourselves for a yummy and healthy juice cleanse kick-starter. I’ll be posting each day with an update of how the cleanse is going. Let me know if you are going to join in!
