Worth the Hype? – Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette

closed palette

Everyone and their mum have heard of the Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette (unless you’ve been living in a hole, in which case I commend you for not giving in to the cravings to watch YouTube videos and read blogs all night instead of studying). But is it worth the hype? I could never bring myself to pay so much money for six eye shadows that, if I’m honest, don’t really look like much, but when I was asked what I wanted for my birthday in June I jumped at the opportunity and quickly put the palette at the top of my wish list.

So, are the shadows as creamy and pigmented as everyone claims they are? In short… Yes.

The texture: I’ve had butter that is harder than these eye shadows. They are so creamy and bendable that you almost don’t actually need to bother blending at all when you apply them. They blend seamlessly with your skin, which makes it easy to correct the mistakes that I seem to make more often than not.

Pigmentation: One quick swipe of these buttery shadows and you have enough colour to paint your whole body, which makes them last a really long time.

Colours: The palette has five matte shades including a matte black (crave), dark matte brown (faint), cool toned light matte brown (naked 2), a matte chickpea colour (W.O.S), a matte yellow (foxy) and a more shimmery highlight colour (Venus) that is great for highlighting the inner corners and brow bone. At first I didn’t understand how these colours could be so amazing but after one use I realized just how perfectly matched they are. Because all of the colours apart from Venus are matte it’s super easy to create lots of different looks from super natural to a dark smokey eye for a night out.

Here’s my favourite everyday eye look using the Naked Basics Palette. I use foxy all over my lid, blend naked 2 into my crease and faint into the outer corner of my eye to create a bit of depth. Then I place Venus into my inner corner and on my brow bone to open up my eyes a bit (oh the pains of having eternally small eyes).
