“Harry’s is a Stag, Ron’s is a Jack Russell, Hermione’s is an Otter and Dumbledore’s is a Phoenix- but what’s your patronus M?” Well friend, I’m glad you asked. This has been a question that I have battled with for my entire life. I would like to think that I’m a majestic eagle who’s bravery and strength is unmatched by human or animal kind, but have slowly come to realise that my patronus (or spirit animal if you will) is slightly less majestic and animal like.
Let me tell you a bit about me. I’m clumsy, silly and have been known to blurt out some pretty inappropriate “jokes” creating some awkward situations (who needs a filter anyway?). I also seem to be constantly referred to as my spirit animal when I bust out my famous dance moves or fall over air (like a majestic eagle… amiright?). Yes, you guessed it… my patronus is indeed, Miranda Hart.
I used to get embarrassed when strangers would greet me with “wow you remind me of someone… ah I can’t remember who it is.” and then blurt out minutes later “oooh I know, Miranda! You’re just like Miranda!” but have come to accept that I too, with Miranda’s help, will save Sirius from the Dementors and conquer the Dark Lord! – Too far? Sorry.
When my best friend bought me Miranda Hart’s new exercise DVD Maracattack for my birthday I was pretty excited to give it a go and see how the majestic eagle-like Miranda exercises. Maracattack is described as a workout DVD that “combines fun and fitness. Presenting… ‘funness’!” I know what you’re thinking, “haha good one Miranda, there’s no such thing as funness. Exercise is the stuff of nightmares, closely followed by being devoured by man-eating spiders.” I, too thought that exact same thing (like actually the exact same thing – wow, we’re so connected!) before I gave Maracattack a go. Let me explain how Miranda actually achieves something I thought was impossible – funness.
Ok, so this may be cheating but let’s be honest, everything she does is hilarious so you aren’t concentrating on the fact that you are actually exercising (yuck) too much. That’s a win for me!
There are different levels
Miranda is joined by her tiny, fit fitness expert friend Amelia Watts who does all of the moves on the hardest scale while Miranda does them slightly less hard-core for those of us who need a little bit of practice in the workout sector. I really like this because it gives you something to work up to, plus it shows that just doing a bit is better than doing nothing!
Tom Ellis makes a guest appearance. I needn’t say more.
There are also some classic Miranda skits popped sporadically through the DVD, making pretty good distractions and breaks.
Short and sweet
There are routines that range from 5 to 30 minutes and you can pick and chose which one you want to do at any time (Tom Ellis on repeat anyone?). This makes it easy to do a quick workout in the morning or a long one when you’re feeling super active.
Maracattack is one of the few exercises that I love to do with friends! It’s like you’re having a Spanish party! (Sombreros compulsory)
It’s pretty impossible to be sad when you’re waving around your maracas making some sick beats.
So friends, in conclusion, Maracattack is the most fun in workout clothes and maracas I’ve ever had! Definitely grab it if you are feeling like having a party, working out and joining the Funness craze!
You can pick up a copy of Maracattack from the ABC shop for only $19.99: https://shop.abc.net.au/products/miranda-hart-maracattack-dvd. And while you’re there you should definitely pick up her book – it’s one of my favourites!
