MASCARA MARCH – Lash Sensational Washable Mascara by Maybelline

Washable? What does that mean? I have scoured the internet trying to find out what on earth Maybelline means when they call this mascara ‘washable’, I found nadda. If you are clued in on this mystery please please please let me know what a washable mascara entails!  Anyway, we are going to ignore that tiny detail for now and get on with the review of Lash Sensational Mascara by Maybelline.

Every blogger and their dog has been singing from the rooftops about there love of this mascara, so does it live up to the hype?

VOLUME: Not bad! Not bad at all.  Not as great at The Colossal Leather Black mascara by Maybelline, but still pretty bloody great. It’s a natural volume that can work on a every day basis or into a darker night-time look (unlike the colossal mascara which jumps straight to the latter). This is definitely going to become a staple for me.

LENGTH: For me this is where this mascara delivers, it adds some serious length. The major selling point of this mascara is the special fanning brush which supposedly has ten layers of bristles to help give your lashes a “full fan effect”.  My long, thin lashes easily clump up with lengthening mascaras, but not with this bad boy. Very impressed!

RECOMMEND?: Definitely! I can see why everyone is so impressed by this mascara, it is high-end quality, and for only AU$21.95.  That price is by no means super cheap, but it is still well below the price of high-end mascaras that do exactly the same job (I’m looking at you Benefit Roller Lash).

Have you tried any other Maybelline mascaras? What were your thoughts? Let me know in comments!

MASCARA MARCH – The Colossal Go Extreme Leather Black Mascara by Maybelline

All the advertising around this mascara when it was first released really sucked me in! Seeing the same ad before every single YouTube video I watched with the insanely voluminous lashes had me making a special trip to purchase it; I needed that kind of lash volume in my life like yesterday.

Did the Maybelline marketing team lead me astray? Read on to find out..

VOLUME: Okay, so I don’t look quite like the chick in the ad.  But I’m going to go out on a limb and say they aren’t her real lashes (and if they are, I need some of those genes in my family line asap, have you got a brother?).  Having said that, I am pretty damn happy with the volume this mascara gives me! My lashes are long, but they are very much lacking in the volume department, and this mascara masks that amazingly.  Huge tick from me – 12/10.

LENGTH: Again, big tick.  This increases the length of my lashes without clumping them together, something that is a rare find, particularly in drugstore mascaras.  I think it’s something to do with the shape of the brush (Maybelline calls it their first “super-loading brush”), whatever it is it’s working.

COLOUR: I’m not really sure what the difference between regular black mascara and “leather black” mascara is, to be honest.  Is it more matte? Their website just says it will give you “leather black intensity”…which gives me zero information on what that means and I remain at a loss, oh well.  So, it’s black, it’s got great pigmentation and I have nothing negative to say about the colour.

PRICE: At AU$19.95, it’s not the cheapest mascara on the market, but it’s not going to break the bank. Worth the price, in my opinion.

RECOMMEND?: Hell yes.  This is a massive call, but I think I may prefer this over the Benefit They’re Real…don’t believe me? Try it out for yourself. Aussies can buy their’s here.

Have you tried the regular The Colossal mascara by Maybelline? How do you think it compares to the Leather Black version? Let me know in the comments below!

MASCARA MARCH – Ultimate All-In-One Mascara by Revlon

Honestly, I’m hoping that writing this review will help me make up my mind up about this mascara.  At the moment we have a bit of a love/hate relationship and every time I use it I can’t decide whether to throw it angrily in the bin or make it a holy grail.  It’s all very confusing and emotional and it’s becoming a bit of a toxic relationship…this review is our couples therapy, if you will.

So let’s get cracking!

The Revlon Ultimate All-In-One mascara claims to deliver five benefits in one; volume, length, definition, lift and intense colour.  So how does it live up to these expectations?

Volume: 10/10.  But also 5/10.  Why? Because whilst it has the power to give my spindly lashes the volume of my dreams, it really makes me work for it.

Let me take a moment to talk to you about the stupid brush on this mascara.  WTF Revlon.  The bristley bits are minute, you can barely see them, and if you don’t wipe the majority of the product off on the side of the tube you are going to have clump city on your lashes; huge, massive, black, sticky, clumps that will get errywhere when you try to remove them.

Exhibit A

So, after 5 minutes or so of removing most of the product off the stupid brush, veryveryveryvery carefully applying it to my lashes and then working at it with a clean spooly/eyebrow comb, you get some amazing volume.  I just don’t know if it’s worth getting up 15 minutes earlier for.  Give me a different spooly, Revlon, and then maybe you’ll retain your 10/10 status.

Length: Similar to above, once you get this mascara working the length is about an 8/10.  Your lashes are longer, but it doesn’t happen easily.

Definition: Again, you can achieve this, but you’re going to have to reeeeeeaaaalllly want it and work for it.  Once you’ve done that the definition is amazing! Each lash looks perfect.  Does it happen with the spooly provided? Hell no. That spooly can f*&^ off.  You’ll have to use your own tools to get that what-dreams-are-made-of definition.

Lift: Umm…..yeah? Tbh, I haven’t really noticed this all that much.  So i’ll give it a 6/10.  It’s not like it weighed my lashes down, so there’s that.

Intense Colour: Straight up 13/10 in this criteria.  This is the mostly intensely jet black mascara I own! It is so pigmented! I love me some dark lashes, so it really ticks this box for me.

So…the final decision…do I recommend this mascara? As much as this breaks my heart (for some unknown reason) I’m going to have to say no.  The formula is fantastic, but the spooly is a piece of poo that should never have left the brainstorming stage of development.  Did they not try this mascara out before they sold it? Obviously not, because if they had they would have instantly gone “well that spooly is S%^&!” and replaced it with a normal spooly.

Sorry, Revlon, you stuffed up.  If you don’t mind working insanely hard for amazing lashes, then you will love this.  If you don’t feel like taking half the day off to apply your mascara, then this will probably annoy you as much as it did me.

Have you tried any of the other mascaras in Revlon’s “The Mascara Revolution” range? Let us know in the comments below if we should try any of them out!

MASCARA MARCH – Volum’ Express The Falsies Waterproof Mascara

I’m not really sure why volume is spelled without an ‘e’ in the name of this mascara and I can’t stop thinking about it.  I think they’re trying to be French, but it’s Maybelline New York so who knows. Are they saying it so fast (express, if you will) that the ‘e’ fell off? Are they saying it like a pirate that moonlights as a MUA? Is it not even meant to be volume and it’s a whole other word that I don’t know?…Imma google it. Nope, only in French. I dunno, I don’t get it. Anyway, on with the review.

To avoid me going on and on about the disappearance of the e, I’ll hereafter refer to this mascara only as “The Flasies”.

I was nervous about this mascara.  The ads are so obviously not real lashes that I expected the results to be the exact opposite. I understand that it is called The Falsies, and it is meant to make your real lashes look like false lashes but they are straight up false lashes.

I bought this because I have a shopping problem and I convinced myself that I needed to buy it, use it once or twice and do a review. And, well, here we are! So maybe I don’t have a shopping problem after all! Woo!  On I shop.

Ain’t nobody got lashes like that IRL.

I was very pleasantly surprised that this is a mascara I can happily wear regularly! It can easily work with a lashy day look or a sexy night-time look, a trick that not all mascaras can pull off.

Volume (with an e): Maybelline tells me that this mascara has Kera-Fibres that bring all the volume, and they’re doing a pretty good job.  I have mascaras that give me more volume but for the price it volumises beautifully.

Length: This is where this mascara really shines.  Lashes for daysssss.  I have generally found it hard to get delivery on both volume and length from one mascara; I tend to use two to get the look I’m after.  But this mascara does both! Well done Maybelline! The best part? No clumping.

Colour: It’s black. What more can you ask for? It’s neither the most pigmented nor the dullest mascara I own.  And I’m okay with mediocre when it’s delivering so well in the other areas.

Recommend? Yes! When I started using this mascara again for this review I kept saying to myself “Why on earth don’t I wear this more often!”. If you want one mascara that looks natural for everyday but can give you the va-va-voom you’re after for nights out, then get this into your life.

We will have more Mascara March heading your way very soon! Are there any mascaras you would like to see reviewed? Let us know in the comments below.
