REVIEW: Urban Decay VICE Lipsticks

Urban Decay recently replaced all of their lipsticks with a new line of 100 different shades in five different formulas and because I’m so good at saving money I only picked up eight shades (to start with) and thought I would share my thoughts with you – meet the VICE Lipstick line from Urban Decay!

I tried to pick up a shade from each formula but couldn’t decide on a colour in the cream or sheer formula but I’m sure I will in the future.

The Price:

In Australia you can purchase these lippies from Mecca, both online and instore, and they will set you back $28. Considering the quality and sheer quantity of shades available I find this price pretty decent as you are bound to find your perfect lippy in the collection somewhere!

The Colours:

There are 100 of them, I think that speaks for itself.

They really have thought of every possible lipstick finish possible in this collection! From sheer, every day shades to super chunky glittery shades to dark, vampy, wintery hues. My favourite finish out of the six has to be comfort matte. It really reminds me of the MAC Satin formula which I loooove!

Sheer: This is one of the formulas that I didn’t really find a shade that clicked but there are lots of beautiful ones in the collection! The sheer finish would be great if you want a shade that looks like you put in a little bit of effort but not like you are wearing loads of makeup. I also think this finish would be great if you wanted a “my lips but better” lippy.

Sheer Shimmer: I have the shade Ex-Girlfriend in this formula and looooove it! The finish is somewhere between a shimmery and cream lipstick. It’s not going to last you all day and it’s not an opaque colour by any means but I really like that it is buildable and easy to reapply! I think this is a nice formula to get in an every day colour and Ex-Girlfriend is definitely that for me.

Cream: As I mentioned, I don’t have a colour in this finish but from testing in store it seems nice and creamy. It’s also supposed to be a buildable formula so don’t expect this to be your all-day-waterproof lipstick but again, something nice to slap on in a rush and be done.

Metallized: I have two shades in this finish and really like both! Peyote is a beautiful every-day colour that I have been wearing non stop! Amulet is unlike any other colour I own in my collection and, for that reason, I love it! The Metallized finish is really flattering and I’ve been loving these shades (especially Peyote) as a handbag companion since I bought them as they are easy to slap on and reapply! Like the cream and sheer shimmer formulas they won’t last you all day but I looooove them!

Comfort Matte: As I mentioned above this is my favourite formula out of the bunch! They last a really long time without being drying or powdery on the lips! If you are eating and drinking on a night out, you will need to reapply these shades but they last longer than the others. I picked up four colours in this finish and will definitely be buying more! Backtalk is the kind of colour that I tend to reach for constantly if I want to look like I put in a little bit of effort, it is a beautiful cool nude shade and the pigmentation is insane! 1993 is a warm brown shade and I think I will be rocking it a lot during the warmer months! I also picked up Blackmail which is the kind of deep, vampy shade I love wearing on a night out or during a cold and wet Tassie day. Lastly I got Menace which is a classic blue toned bright pink! It’s a great bright colour for the summer months.

Mega-Matte: This finish reminds me so much of the MAC matte and retro matte listicks! It is a tad drying but if you properly prep your lips with lip balm, primer and liner before applying them they don’t look powdery or too heavy! I picked up the shade 714 in this shade which is a classic red and is also the shade that Ruby Rose wore in all of the campaigns for this collection. I absolutely love this shade and think it would suit every skin tone!

The boxes of the lipsticks are so cool! They have broken up colours stacked upon one another and gold writing. I think they look nice and sleek and I love that they have a sticker of the colour on them too so they are easily recognisable! The actual lipstick tubes look so sleek and also have a sticker on the bottom of them with not only the shade name but the colour of the lipstick too which is great when you have the stored together! They have a little clip when you shut them too so the lid doesn’t fall off in your handbag or during travel! A+ from me!

Overall Thoughts:

I think Urban Decay hit the nail on the head with this range! There really is a colour for everyone! I hope they come out with some of the colours in a variety of finishes as I think that would go really well but overall I think I might have found my new favourite range of lipsticks!

Stay Happy,

Review: Frog Prince by Lipstick Queen

N and I are lipstick lovers so when I heard about a green lipstick that transforms to a natural rosebud pink on your lips I knew I had to try it out!

Enter Frog Prince by Lipstick QueenIt is an emerald-green lipstick enriched with Vitamin E and Shea Butter that reacts with your bodies pH levels to transform in to your “perfect rose-pink lipstick shade” (or so it claims). If you’re thinking, “woah, that’s a big claim that it will transform in to everyone’s perfect pink shade” then you’re exactly where I was at when I walked in to Mecca and bought it off the lovely sales assistant.

It does sound incredible though, if it does what it claims it could turn in to my favourite every day lipstick shade. After all, we’ve all gone through the struggle of finding our “perfect everyday lipstick shade” so maybe this lippie will help us overcome that. Over the last two weeks I have, almost exclusively, worn Frog Prince and I thought I would tell you what I think.

This is the first thing you’ll notice when you see this lipstick, it really is bright emerald-green! But not to worry, one swipe on your lips and they will literally transform before your very eyes in to a lovely natural pink shade. Now, I know what you’re thinking… “Just because it works for me how do I know it will work for everyone?” The answer is, I can’t, but I did have my mum and N both test it out and it did look beautiful (and very different!) on all three of us.

This is probably my favourite thing about this lipstick! It is an interesting mix between a lipstick and a lip balm. It’s so creamy and hydrating that it basically acts as your lip balm and you definitely don’t need to prime your lips in any way before you use it. One thing I was worried about was the way it would wear off my lips and that was also something I loved! It wears off so naturally and just leaves your lips with a slight tint, but nothing too overwhelming! Love, love, love this formula!

Now this is where the lipstick will probably divide a few of you. It is definitely, by no means, a long-wearing lipstick. If you’re a lover of uber-matte liquid lipsticks and hate having to re-apply then I’ll tell you now, this lipstick isn’t for you. But if you like creamy finishes and don’t mind a touch up every now and then, I think you’ll love it! It lasts about 2-3 hours before I need to re-apply but the beautiful thing is you can re-apply whenever and wherever you want! Because it’s so creamy and sheer you don’t need to worry about perfect applications or using a mirror, a few smudges of your lips together will do the trick!

Over-all thoughts:

I’m about to start studying again soon and I think the long days in the classroom or days where I can’t really be bothered to do a full face of makeup but still want to look somewhat presentable are exactly when I will use this. It is so easy to re-apply and chuck in your bag, I know I’ll be getting a lot of use out of this lipstick and will most likely repurchase if I do ever run out!

What’s your favourite lipstick? Do you want to give this transforming lipstick a go? Let us know in the comments below so we can test out some new lippies! We are ALWAYS on the hunt for new lip products!

Stay happy, until next time

Review & Swatches: Shanghai Suzy Lipsticks

I am a lover of lipstick. So when I started to hear great things about the lipstick brand Shanghai Suzy I, of course, gave it a quick Google to see what the fuss was about. Not gonna lie, I assumed this was a Chinese brand from the name, but it turns out it’s a local Australian brand. The lipstick-only brand was created to fill the hole in the market for good quality yet affordable lipsticks, and they nailed it.

I wasn’t really sure what to expect from Shanghai Suzy lipsticks, but it just went ahead and blew my mind. For starters, they are AU$12.95. So, naturally, my plan of buying just one to try the formula out quickly turned into a little trio of first impressions.

The formula? Fabulous. They are so creamy, and yet not heavy on the lips, and they last. Like not last as in do-nothing-all-day-like-don’t-even-chew-gum and it lasts, but like really lasts. I gave these guys a workout, I even wore one out to Mexican one night and it still looked respectable after a night of having shoved tacos/burritos/cocktails in my gob. It had faded slightly, but this was almost unnoticeable and it had done it well. Nothing annoys me more with a lipstick than when you go to the bathroom and you have nothing left but a lip liner-esque ring around your lips; that didn’t happen with these lipsticks.

As mentioned earlier, I picked up three colours. They are all name ‘Miss somethingoranother” which I think is just adorable. The three I own are Miss Bree (Pink Blush), Miss Sanja (Fuschia) and Miss Victorine (Classic Red). I will say one thing though, it’s not necessarily a negative, it’s just a note. All three of my lipsticks are the ‘matte formula’…they ain’t matte. They aren’t shimmery, or frosted or anything like that at all, but they are also not matte. That doesn’t bother me, but if you are after a MAC style matte lipstick, these are not for you.

On to swatches…

L-R: Miss Victorine, Miss Sanja, Miss Bree

Miss Bree – Pink Blush

A cute pink that can go from every day to blushing night-time beauty.

Miss Sanja – Fuschia

A gorgeous almost-purple. This is probably the one I wear most often, it finished off any outfit perfectly.

Miss Victorine – Classic Red

I’m going to make a bold statement; this is a pretty good dupe for MAC’s Ruby Woo. I love Ruby Woo, and (as I mentioned) this is nowhere near as matte, but to be honest I think that may be in Miss Victorine’s favour! This is just a gorgeous, classic red. A must have in any girls lipstick collection.

Top – Miss Victorine Bottom – Ruby Woo

All in all I am a huge fan and will definitely be purchasing more and getting them as gifts for friends and family. Miss Tanielle (Desert Rose) is next on my list.

Do you have any lipstick brand recommendations for me to try? Let me know in the comments below.

Stay beautiful, N x

Current Lipstick Favourites

A constant battle in my life is whether to go big on the eye makeup, or make lipstick the star of the show. An eyeshadow-focused look is so elegant. It takes a bit longer which makes it feel special and it allows me to let my creative side loose! But lipstick is so glamorous and fun! Deciding which is my favourite is completely essential (obviously), and really hard. The struggle is real, my friends.

I know what you’re thinking “Oh dear! What an awful, serious and life-altering conundrum you face! What on earth did you decide?”. Perhaps the observant amongst you picked up on the subtle clue in the title of this post, but for the rest of you I won’t leave you in suspense any longer…

Lipstick, I love you. Like, so much. The other day I was given a lipstick so beautiful I almost cried. I realise that crying over a lipstick is ridiculous but I’m not going to apologise. Lipstick makes me happy; we are in love and our love is the kind that lasts a lifetime. So to celebrate lipstick and I going steady, here are my lipstick faves of the moment:

Grace by Nars

This is the most beautiful lipstick I have ever seen.  If the entire Nars audacious lipstick collection is as fabulous as this I recommend you purchase as many as you can get your hands on. The consistency is incredibly, dreamily creamy, the pigmentation blew my mind, the colour is exactly what I was looing for and (I’m not sure if all Nars lipsticks have this but this detail amazed me) the lid has a little magnet so that it won’t come off in your bag! This may be the perfect lipstick. I will wear this as often as humanly possible. You should too.

Little side note: The lipstick is slightly more pink in real life than it appears in the photo.

Plink! by MAC

Technically M owns this lipstick, not me, but that doesn’t stop me from using it frequently. She describes it as “your lips, but better” and I can’t think of a better way to describe this product. I’m not a huge fan of nude lipsticks, I just cannot pull them off, but Plink is somehow nude without being nude. It takes my lips and adds a subtle pink sheen that finishes off my look without making me feel like I’m overdressed. When possible, I wear this lipstick every single day.

Joli Rouge 704 by Clarins

If you’re in the search for the perfect red lipstick but don’t want to mortgage your house to purchase one from YSL, Tom Ford or Chanel, then this is for you. To be honest, this is just a good as those famous reds anyway. The colour is rich, the consistency creamy and it lasts ages. I have branched out with all varieties of different shades, brands and finishes when it comes to red lipstick, but I always end up coming back to 704. Why change what works so well?

Kate Moss Lasting Finish no. 12 by Rimmel

This lipstick is a chameleon. Having seen M wear it, there is absolutely no way I would have thought I could pull off such a peach-tangerine-orange shade and I was wrong. This baby somehow works to suit most skin tones, almost looking like a completely different colour on different people. I had accepted my fate of never being able to pull off an orange-toned lipstick until I discovered this and I cannot wait to wear it over the summer months! It doesn’t last forever, but given the price and a rather lovely consistency that doesn’t really bother me. Besides, reapplying is a good excuse to go and swoon over the gorgeous colour of this lipstick in the mirror. It. Is. Amazeballs.

What are you favourite lipsticks? Comment with suggestions for what I should try next! I hope this ignited a little spark in your heart for your favourite lipsticks. I’m off to look at my collection and tell them how much I appreciate their existence.

Also, big thanks to M for lending her luscious lips for the modelling!
