Review: BH Cosmetics X Carli Bybel Eyeshadow and Highlighter palette.

My beautiful sister, N got me the BH Cosmetics X Carli Bybel 14 Colour Eyeshadow and Highlighter Palette for my birthday in June so I thought I would put it to the test and let you all know what I think about it. So, without further ado, here are my thoughts on the palette.

Price:

This palette is so afordable! It costs $14.50USD and you get 10 eyeshadows and 4 highlighters! You do have to pay for shipping but I think all up it cost N around $20… Winner!

Formulation:

Hooly dooly, these are probably the most highly pigmented, buttery and smooth eyeshadows I own aside from my three Makeup Forever shadows! They seriously feel like powdery butter! There’s also hardly any fall out because they are so smooth, meaning you can happily apply your face makeup before doing your eyes without having to worry about an industrial size cleanup. They are super pigmented so you don’t have to use heaps but they aren’t hard to blend out at all which really surprised me when I saw how much shadow I picked up on my brush the first time I used the palette! The highlighters have the exact same, creamy formula too and are a delight to use! There are five matte and five shimmery shades – perfect! A lot of our other palettes tend to be either mostly matte or mostly shimmer so I love that this is perfectly centred! The shimmer shades also aren’t chunky or glittery at all which is always a winner in my books!

 Colour Range:

What I love about this palette is the really catered for a lot of different skin tones, especially with the highlighters! They somehow managed to make four highlighters have the perfect shade range for super light to deep, dark skin tones! The eyeshadows also have a great range of matte transition shades meaning that you will pretty much find your crease shade no matter what skin shade you are.

 Longevity:

This is where things get exciting! I have pretty oily eyelids and my eyeshadows tend to get those gross sweaty blank lines within a few hours normally, especially if I don’t prime my eyes! During my move to Sydney I packed only this palette and completely forgot to pack a primer. I didn’t even know if it was worth wearing the shadows but was going out for breakkie with my cousin one morning at 7am and wanted to look pretty. The next time I looked at my self in the mirror that day was around 8pm (so I had been wearing them for at least 12.5 hours) and MY EYES STILL LOOKED INCREDIBLE! Like I’m talking, freshly applied amazing. These eyeshadows, even though they are super creamy, somehow stay on for hours and hours – probably days if you left them! Winner winner chicken dinner!

 Packaging:

The packaging is definitely a winner for me! Yes it’s big but it’s got 14 powder products in it so that doesn’t bother me! What I love so much is how slim it is! It fits in my toiletry bag so easily even though the actual size of the palette is one of my biggest!

Overall thoughts:

As you can probably tell I absolute love this palette! N and I are actually going to buy another one each for backups haha. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is on the market for eyeshadows or highlighters or generally is alive. Buy it now, thank me later.

Stay Happy,

Review: Frog Prince by Lipstick Queen

N and I are lipstick lovers so when I heard about a green lipstick that transforms to a natural rosebud pink on your lips I knew I had to try it out!

Enter Frog Prince by Lipstick QueenIt is an emerald-green lipstick enriched with Vitamin E and Shea Butter that reacts with your bodies pH levels to transform in to your “perfect rose-pink lipstick shade” (or so it claims). If you’re thinking, “woah, that’s a big claim that it will transform in to everyone’s perfect pink shade” then you’re exactly where I was at when I walked in to Mecca and bought it off the lovely sales assistant.

It does sound incredible though, if it does what it claims it could turn in to my favourite every day lipstick shade. After all, we’ve all gone through the struggle of finding our “perfect everyday lipstick shade” so maybe this lippie will help us overcome that. Over the last two weeks I have, almost exclusively, worn Frog Prince and I thought I would tell you what I think.

 Colour:

This is the first thing you’ll notice when you see this lipstick, it really is bright emerald-green! But not to worry, one swipe on your lips and they will literally transform before your very eyes in to a lovely natural pink shade. Now, I know what you’re thinking… “Just because it works for me how do I know it will work for everyone?” The answer is, I can’t, but I did have my mum and N both test it out and it did look beautiful (and very different!) on all three of us.

Formula:

This is probably my favourite thing about this lipstick! It is an interesting mix between a lipstick and a lip balm. It’s so creamy and hydrating that it basically acts as your lip balm and you definitely don’t need to prime your lips in any way before you use it. One thing I was worried about was the way it would wear off my lips and that was also something I loved! It wears off so naturally and just leaves your lips with a slight tint, but nothing too overwhelming! Love, love, love this formula!

Longevity:

Now this is where the lipstick will probably divide a few of you. It is definitely, by no means, a long-wearing lipstick. If you’re a lover of uber-matte liquid lipsticks and hate having to re-apply then I’ll tell you now, this lipstick isn’t for you. But if you like creamy finishes and don’t mind a touch up every now and then, I think you’ll love it! It lasts about 2-3 hours before I need to re-apply but the beautiful thing is you can re-apply whenever and wherever you want! Because it’s so creamy and sheer you don’t need to worry about perfect applications or using a mirror, a few smudges of your lips together will do the trick!

Over-all thoughts:

I’m about to start studying again soon and I think the long days in the classroom or days where I can’t really be bothered to do a full face of makeup but still want to look somewhat presentable are exactly when I will use this. It is so easy to re-apply and chuck in your bag, I know I’ll be getting a lot of use out of this lipstick and will most likely repurchase if I do ever run out!

What’s your favourite lipstick? Do you want to give this transforming lipstick a go? Let us know in the comments below so we can test out some new lippies! We are ALWAYS on the hunt for new lip products!

Stay happy, until next time

Autumn/Fall Beauty Favourites 2016

Fall has kind of snuck up on me this year; Summer was so gorgeous this year and that warmer weather has stuck around a little longer than normal. Consequently, my beauty routine was stuck in the summery scope well into March before I finally gave in a let my Autumnal faves sneak back in. But they’re back and they’re beautiful and I really don’t know why I didn’t start using them at 12.01am on March 1st! Silly girl.

So, without further ado, here are my current Autumn/Fall beauty favourites…

Skincare

Liquid Gold – Pure Argan oil by Moreish

ARGANOIL_Fotor

For a few years now I have been an extremely loyal rosehip oil convert. So it took quite a bit of self-convincing to get myself to branch out and try another facial oil. But I did just that.   For about two months now I have been using pure Argan oil in my skincare routine. Whilst initially I found it a bit too heavy for my skin, as the weather became cooler my skin really enjoyed that slightly more moisturising property. I will definitely continue to use it during the colder, drier months!

Black Clay Face Mask by NKDBODY

NKDFACEMASK_Fotor

This mask leaves my skin feeling so revived, refreshed and oh so soft. I have found that is needs to be wiped off with a damp cloth as opposed to just rinsing, otherwise the colour can seep into fine lines and pores and leave you looking like a Dalmatian, not really what we’re after. Do that and you’ll love this bad boy as much as I do.

Foundation

Naked Skin Ultra Definition Liquid Makeup by Urban Decay

FOUNDATION_Fotor

This is the perfect lightweight foundation for autumn. Its thin consistency is perfect for any dryness that may develop as the weather cools and provides light-medium coverage whilst keeping you looking natural and healthy. I have recently done a full review on this foundation, so click here if you want to read more.

Powder

Ambient Lighting Powders by Hourglass

POWDER_Fotor

I don’t know why it has taken me so long to jump onto the ambient lighting powder bandwagon but oh my goodness I am on it now. M has owned the palette and a single of the Dim Light for quite a while and I have always reached past them, then something recently made me think “I really should try this out again” and holy moly! This powder is stunning. It’s exactly the thing to ensure you keep that glow into the fall. It costs an arm and a leg, but it’s worth it.

Lipstick

Black Wine by Estee Lauder

LIPSTICK_Fotor

Fall calls for deep, bloody, Autumnal reds that remind you of leaves falling from trees and this one by Estee Lauder is absolutely perfect; My go-to autumn lipstick.

Miss Sanja by Shanghai Suzy

DSC06173

If you’re not feeling the deeper fall colours, then this fushcia is another great alternative. It draws on the fall colours whilst also keeping this fresh and light. It honestly goes with so many different looks I love it!

I have recently done a full review on Shanghai Suzy lipsticks, so click here if you would like to read more about this fabulous lippy brand.

Blush

Dolce Vita by Nars

BLUSH_Fotor

This blush is delicious! It’s mauvey amazingness in a compact that creates that perfect pinched-cheek look we’re all coveting in the fall.

Hair

Hair Mask by NKDBODY

NKDHAIRMASK_Fotor

You skin isn’t the only thing that suffers in the cool, dry months. Give your hair a little loving too with this great moisturising hair mask. My hair feels so gorgeous and silky after I use this and it doesn’t have to be left in for a ridiculous amount of time! Great for lazy people like myself.

Tea

Earl Grey by Aurora OR French Earl Grey by T2

I don’t usually drink black teas (I just prefer the lighter green or white teas) but when the weather starts to cool down I seriously crave a cup of earl grey in the mornings. These two are my favourites, and if you really made me choose I would pick the one by T2, but the packaging of the Aurora one is so cute! I recommend both to any fellow tea lovers out there.

Mascara

I Love Extreme Volume Waterproof Mascara by Essence

MASCARA_Fotor

I was recently put onto this mascara by a fellow blogger here on WordPress and I honestly cannot thank them enough. I can’t believe how amazingly well this delivers on both volume and length and for less than AU$6!! That is insane. I will be telling every man and his dog about this mascara.

There are non-waterproof options if you prefer, but in the rainy autumn months I like to play it safe.

Eyeshadow

Chocolate Bar Eyeshadow Palette by Too Faced

CHOCOLATEBAR_Fotor

No doubt you’ve heard of this glorious palette, and it is just as fabulous as everyone says. But it really comes into it’s own during the fall. The beautiful deep red, the coppers, the browns, the greens…it’s autumn in an eyeshadow palette.

Review: Maybelline The Nudes Eyeshadow Palette

I love my mum, but if Lisa Eldridge offered to adopt me I wouldn’t hesitate for a second before I said “hells yes!”. She is so elegant and soothing and I think she may well be an angel sent from heaven to make the world a better, more beautiful place. But I’ve got way off track. Where was I going with this?…

Oh yeah, a few months ago I was watching a Lisa Eldridge tutorial and she used The Nudes eyeshadow palette by Maybelline. I was so soothed by her amazing voice that I barely noticed myself going out and buying it instantly. I just realised one day that it was in my makeup draw, oops. Really though, can you have too many natural eyeshadow palettes?! Probably.

top_Fotor

So was it worth the AU$21.99, or should you fork out the extra dollars for a high end substitute? Keep reading to find out.

shadows_Fotor

The 12 eyeshadow colours are right up my alley. Browns and ashy greys through some almost-coppers to a beautiful gold. Whilst 8 of them are shimmery, 4 are matte. I’m a huge fan of matte eyeshadow, especially for my everyday makeup and when I’m wearing glasses; somebody told me once that you should always wear matte shadows with glasses and I have run with that for years…I should really check out whether that is true. My favourites are the matte brown (top row, second from the right) and the almost-coppery brown (top row, third from the right). I also use the black to tight line my upper-lash line when I can’t be bothered with eyeliner but want the appearance of thick lashes.

Quality is where they are lacking. The first thing I noticed is that these bad boys have A LOT of fallout. You notice it as soon as you put your brush in the shadow, it falls errywhere. Ignoring that fact, which is super annoying but something I can get past, the quality is about a 6/10. They’re not terrible, the pigmentation is pretty good, just not fantastic. Same goes for the blendability. I mean, they blend eventually, it just takes a little more time and effort. If you don’t mind taking a bit longer to get ready then that’s not a massive issue either.

The thing that really lets the palette down is the staying power. They just don’t last, particularly the shimmery shades. Even with eyeshadow primer, setting the eyelid, you name it, I gave it a crack, and by the end of the day/night my eyes were but a remnant of what they were in the beginning. Which is such a pity because, as I said, the colours are SO pretty.

1_Fotor_Fotor_Collage

Final verdict: Give it a miss.

I so wanted to say it was worth the money. But I just don’t think that it was. My high-end shadows, yes they cost significantly more, but they also last 10x longer. I just don’t see the point of even applying eyeshadow if it’s going to be gone in an hour or two. Sorry, Lisa.

If you want to give it a shot rather than taking my word for it, I picked mine up here.

Have you got any recommendations of drugstore substitutes for this palette? I am always keen to try new products out!

Stay happy, N x
