2015 Favourites

N YSL Le Teint Touche Éclat

No doubt you’ve heard about the wonders of YSL Touche Éclat concealer, but let me open your eyes to their foundation. It. is flawless; amazing and yet natural coverage and makes you glow without looking greasy. It’s worth the loan you have to take out to purchase it.

Honourable Mention – Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser

M Tarte BB Amazonian Clay Tinted Moisturiser

I know this technically isn’t a foundation but it’s been my favourite base ever since I got it. It has a light coverage and a skin-like finish, which is great for everyday wear or buildable if you want more coverage.

N Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer

I want to thank the girl at Mecca that turned me onto this primer. When I asked her opinion on a primer that would ensure my skin felt hydrated, evened out my skin and kept my makeup on all day she pointed me straight to the Hourglass display, and she was not lying. I ended up purchasing the full size despite the rather ridiculous price tag, and it was worth it.

M Nivea Men Sensitive Post Shave Balm

The Goddess herself, Nikkie Tutorials introduced me (and the world) to this and I haven’t been able to get enough of it. The manly smell can be a bit overwhelming to begin with but trust me give it a go, it’s worth it!

N Benefit Fake Up

I stumbled across this concealer by accident. I was purchasing some other things online and this was on sale so I popped it in my cart on a whim, not ever having heard of it. Best impulse buy ever. It offers both coverage and moisturisation, perfect for the under eye area! My fave every day concealer.

Honourable Mention – YSL Touche Éclat

M MAC Studio Finish Concealer Duo

I was always a bit scared to try the MAC Studio Finish Concealer as I had heard it was a bit drying but boy am I glad I didn’t listen to them! This is hands down the best concealer I have ever used! Each duo has a salmony shade, perfect for combatting dark circles under the eyes and a more yellow based tone, perfect for covering any pesky spots. It stays all day, doesn’t crease and covers ANYTHING. Love, love, love!

N Bobbi Brown Bronzing Powder in Golden Light 1

This is a matte bronzer with the perfect bronze for my pale skin tone. It’s easy for me to come out looking ashy or dirty, especially in the winter months, but that is not an issue with this product. I am definitely glad I popped this in my shopping basket this year, my 2015 was all the more bronzed and babe’n for it.

M Amazonian Princess by Tarte

This quickly became my favourite bronzer and hasn’t left my side throughout 2015. I can see this working on many skin tones, but remember to keep a light hand if you’re as pale as I am, this baby is pigmented.

Honourable Mention – Dallas by Benefit

N Luminoso by Milani

Milani baked blushes in general are amazing. Even if they weren’t so affordable I would still sing their praises, but they are. Luminoso in particular is incredible. I’m talking heart-skips-a-beat every time I apply it kind of blushing beauty. There are literally zero excuses to not have this in your life.

M Gina by Nars

This is my favourite every day blush colour. The Nars blushes pack a punch in the pigmentation department and Gina is no exception meaning this blush will last you a lifetime! It suits so many skin tones and is one that I use on most of my clients with so many different makeup looks! You’ll love Gina!

N Paloma Contour Duo by Nars

Being a pale but freckly gal contouring can be a dangerous game if done incorrectly or with the wrong product. This duo made me a contouring convert. They work perfectly with my skin tone, blend like a dream and leave me looking like I am naturally sculpted like Angelina Jolie. Perfect for every day or an amped up night look. Love love love.

M Kat Von D Shade and Light Palette

There’s a lot of hype about this product and for good reason! Whether you are a contouring rookie or Kim Kardashian I can guarantee you this will quickly become your go to for contouring. It has the creamiest, most pigmented and blendable formula I am yet to try in any makeup product and I am dreading the day I run out. Thank you Kat Von D <3

N Naked Basics 1 & 2 by Urban Decay

Urban decay really knows what it’s doing in the eyeshadow department. These are so fantastic we couldn’t even choose which one we prefer (although to be brutally honest – gun to our heads – the original slightly ups the sequel). They can easily be used for natural looks or glam night-time looks. If you are only going to buy one eye shadow palette, one of these should be it.

M Naked 3 by Urban Decay

Urban Decay was my original eyeshadow love and I certainly haven’t strayed far over the years. The Naked 3 palette has been my go to this year as you can create a simple every day look or amp it up for a night out! It also goes with heaps of eye colours so it’s been fantastic for my clients too!

N Covergirl Clump Crusher by Lashblast

Every other mascara-making company in the world needs to sit down in a room and get lessons from Covergirl on the art of mascara wand making. Seriously. The spoolys on every single one of their mascaras far and beyond surpasses any other. It lifts, separates, lengthens, and adds volume, everything you want from mascara. And as an added bonus you can pick it up from the supermarket. I will buy Covergirl mascaras forever.

Honourable Mention – Bobbi Brown Intensifying Longwearing Mascara

M Benefit They’re Real

It’s no secret that the Benefit They’re Real mascara is my all time favourite/holy grail! I can’t (and don’t want to) imagine a day without this baby! You can read all about my thoughts on the They’re Real mascara here.

Stila Stay All Day Liquid Eyeliner

Our friend got us on to this eyeliner last year and we haven’t looked back. We won’t lie to you, we don’t use liquid eyeliner a whole heap but that’s what is so great about the Stila Stay All Day eyeliner – it never dries out! We are still on our first pen and it is just as opaque, smooth and precise as is was when we first bought it! Definitely give this one a crack if you’re looking for a long-lasting and deep black liquid eyeliner!

Brow Product

N Brow Satin Smoothing Duo by Maybelline

Props go to Shaanxo for getting me onto this product. It has a brow pencil on one end and a filling powder on the other. They are pretty great on their own to be honest, but the combo gives a finish to rival most high end products.

M MAC Velux Brow Liner

This takes me back to when I first started wearing makeup back in 2014! My friends bought me a MAC voucher for my birthday and this brow pencil was first on my list! It’s so smooth, opaque and has a spoolie on the other end making it the perfect travel companion. It’s also easy to build up but doesn’t set too quickly so you can make it look more natural if you like. This is the perfect brow product for beginners!

Honourable Mention – Tarte Brow Mousse

Lipstick/Lip Product

N Pink Dusk by Tom Ford

Earlier this year I was on the hunt for the perfect nude lipstick. I am super fussy in this category, mostly because I just cannot pull off the lighter nudes. After much searching I came across it at the Tom Ford makeup counter. Pink Dusk, ily.

Honourable Mention – Le Orange by YSL

M Honey Love by MAC

We all know I love my nude lipsticks and Mac’s Honey Love quickly became my favourite of 2015! It is the perfect peachy-nude and lasts a super long time (thanks to it’s matte formula) whilst still remaining creamy so as not to dry out your lips. Snaps for Honey Love!

Honourable Mention – Plink by MAC

N Bobbi Brown shimmer brick

There is a reason that one shimmer brick is sold every 2 minutes (or whatever that ridiculous statistic is).   This baby does its job. We have it in both Beige and Rose and both are beautiful. They add a subtle glow to your look that will have everybody commenting on your makeup.

M Becca X Jaclyn Hill Champagne Pop

Champagne Pop makes you look like you have been kissed by one thousand angels and appointed the high priestess of the Glow Land. You need this in your life!

Face of Australia Translucent Powder

This has been our favourite setting powder since we picked it up in late 2014. It has the perfect skin-like finish and helps keep oil at bay on those summer days. And for only $11.95 who could go wrong?!

Makeup Brushes

N Zoeva 128 Cream Cheek

I can’t even explain why this brush makes me so giddy, but it does. The shape applies blush (cream or powder) perfectly. It just does. Get this in your life and be prepared for amazing things.

M MAC 135

I would like to say and big thank you to Desi Perkins, Jaclyn Hill and Nikki Tutorials for bringing this brush in to my life! This is the PERFECT bronzing brush and could be used for blush, highlight, setting powder, eyeshadow (you get the picture). It makes me feel like I am at a spa every time I use it! If you had to have one brush in your life, this should be it!

N Daisy Dream by Marc Jacobs

This perfume is perfect all year round. It’s a beautiful subtle scent that picks up my spirits. And the bottle is gorg. 10/10.

M Si by Giorgio Armani

I picked up Si at the Boxing Day sales in 2014 and have never looked back! It has a deeper, floraly, musky scent (can you tell I’m really good at describing scents?) and is the one perfume that I get compliments on every time I wear it WITHOUT FAIL! 4 thumbs up!

Skincare Product

N Bi Carb Soda (Baking Soda)

Years ago, I was reading Vogue and an interview with a model backstage at Sydney Fashion Week mentioned that she uses Bi-Carb with her cleanser to exfoliate. I am about 85% sure it was a young Abbey Lee Kershaw, but don’t quote me on that. A few months ago this popped into my head when I was baking and I decided to give it ago. It’s gentle, natural, affective, and (my favourite part) it has done wonders for evening out my skin tone. Thank-you probably maybe Abbey Lee.

M Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask

I have super dry skin and tend to get pimples from clogged/dry pores around my chin area. This mask has been an absolute lifesaver! I started using it as a night cream soon after I got it and haven’t looked back! I wake up every morning with supple, glowing skin and it’s all thanks to the Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask!

Hair Product

N NKD Hair

I’m not gonna lie, I didn’t think this was going to do a whole heap. I was wrong. This baby makes my hair smooooooooth. Yes all those o’s are necessary, it’s that smooth; zero knots, silky, shiny, amazing hair. I will be stocking up on this and giving it as gifts this year to spread the love. Well done Brittany Lee Saunders, you nailed it.

M BB Thermal Spray

We’ve spoken about the magical properties of this spray before so I won’t go on about it for too long. I will tell you this – if you use any sort of heat on your hair you need this in your life. Your hair will be 1000x smoother and glow like the rays of the sun. Get it!

Hair Care

QV Hair Nourishing Shampoo

IMG_0004_2I have a sensitive scalp so the QV shampoo and conditioner is great! The gentle range is definitely not made for anyone with more hair than a buzz cut so I like to use the Nourishing Shampoo and Conditioner to keep my hair squeaky clean and luscious without irritating my scalp.

Repurchase? Yes – over and over again!

Skin Care

Clinique Liquid Facial Soap – Extra Mild

IMG_0001_2My skin went through a really bad patch a few months ago and I searched high and low for something that would save me from my dry-flaky hell. Quite a few people recommended that I try the Clinique Extra Mild facial cleanser so I picked it up from Myer. This did nothing for my skin. It’s not like it made it worse, and it did have a lovely creamy texture but it just wasn’t the saviour I was hoping for.

Repurchase? No.

Clean & Clear Morning Burst Exfoliator

IMG_0003_2This is a fabulous exfoliator! It has vitamin C in it, so I found it gave my skin a nice morning (or night time) glow and was gentle enough on my skin to use every day! I also have very sensitive and dry skin and I found that it neither irritated or dried out my skin! Thanks Clean & Clear!

Repurchase? Definitely!

Michael Todd Charcoal Detox Deep Pore Gel Cleanser

IMG_0009_2If you Google “Michael Todd review” the number of hits that involve this cleanser far outweigh any of their other products. The vast majority of those reviews are incredibly positive; I however have mixed feelings about it. It is formulated for acne and oily skin, not my combination skin type, and this is probably why this made my skin dry. Like, drrrryyyyyy. If I used it at the beginning of my shower by the end of it my skin felt uncomfortably tight and dry, even my oily areas felt too dry.

Repurchase? No. But oily skinned gals, this may be your lifesaver.

Dry/Combination skin types, check out their Honey & Oat cleanser here.

Michael Todd Jojoba Charcoal Facial Scrub

IMG_0010_2This scrub was gentle enough not to irritate my skin with regular use, but I just didn’t get the same results as I did with the Tropical Fruit scrub. I’m not saying I didn’t like it, I just didn’t love it.

Repurchase? No.

Sukin Facial Treatment Oil

IMG_0011_2I was really excited to try this product out. I’m a huge fan of Sukin products and love their rosehip oil. The packaging says that the combined argan, rosehip, maracuja, jojoba oils will leave me with brighter and softer skin within four weeks. The results were…meh. I mean, it worked I guess. It kept my skin hydrated and soft, but I didn’t get the same results in brightening that I did with Sukin’s regular rosehip oil or Trilogy’s Rosehip Plus (the latter in particular was like WOW).

Repurchase? No.

Si by Giorgio Armani EDP

IMG_0015I got my first bottle of Si at the Boxing day sales and Myer last year and instantly fell in love! It’s the perfect musky, yet sweet fragrance and one that I would literally get a comment on every single day I wore it. I was devastated when I ran out and am tossing up whether I should get the instense version or the normal Eau De Parfum for my next bottle… What do you think?

Repurchase? Absolutely!

Lovely by Sarah Jessica Parker

IMG_0020This is not my first bottle of SJP’s Lovely and it will not be my last. I have been wearing this since I was 16 (at the birth of my Sex & the City love) and I am yet to stop loving the gorgeous soft, floral scent. It’s inexpensive and yet gorgeous. I highly recommend it! You’ll love it as much as I do.

Repurchase? Always. Forever. Yes.

The Body Shop Baked to Last Bronzer in Warm Glow

IMG_0008_2This is my go-to bronzer when I am seriously in need of a bronzed healthy glow. If I fall sick (and look it), this baby revives my poor sickly face. People actually compliment my skin tone on sick days – not a bad effort by this bronzer. When I started to hit pan I actually said “noooooooo!” aloud, I love this bronzer that much. Get it in your life.

Repurchase? Hells yes. Asap.

Stila One Step Correct Primer

IMG_0022This is one of the most hydrating primers I have ever used but I just don’t see any colour correcting properties using it! I’ve used it on days when my face almost looks sunburnt in some areas and there is no difference at all. I’m not sure if I wasn’t using it right but I wouldn’t really recommend it for anyone who needs big help with colour correcting.

Repurchase? No, sorry.

MAC Face & Body

You’ve heard us talk about MAC’s Face and Body Foundation before and I am sure it won’t be the last time. It is our fail safe, holygrail foundation. You can wear it sheer for a natural look and build it up in areas where you need more coverage and it will never look cakey as it is water based! We have converted COUNTLESS friends and family members onto Face and Body and will forever wear this liquid gold!

Repurchase? Forever.

Plink by MAC

IMG_0017Plink! is my favourite natural lipstick of all time! If I don’t know what to wear I’ll always go for it. It’s like my lips, but better and never lets me down! You can read more about Plink! and my other MAC lipsticks in my MAC LIPSTICK COLLECTION post.

Repurchase? Already have.

MAC Bronzer in Matte Bronze

IMG_0016This is my favourite matte bronzer and I’m already quite far through my second pan. It was my first every bronzer and I did A LOT of research in to what I wanted so I didn’t waste my pennies and I was not disappointed in my decision! It’s not super pigmented so you can build it up to whatever kind of look you want and it doesn’t go patchy. Love, love, love this bronzer for an every day look!

Repurchase? Absolutely!

Until next time, stay happy!

N & M xx

What’s in my Travel Makeup Bag?

Mum and I are off to the Sydney sun for a week to visit some family and friends. Anyone who knows me well knows that I am a heavy packer. I like to be prepared and if that means taking three jumpers, two jackets and four pairs of jeans on an overnight trip then so be it! With this in mind I now present to you my travel makeup and brush kit…

I’ve got the cutest little makeup bag from the cutest little shop in Hobart. It’s hand made using old fabric by the lovely lady from Shall Designs. We’re not sure if it is meant for makeup but we LOVE it!

image1 (1)

Ok, I have to admit, I am pretty proud of myself with the makeup I chose to bring on this trip. I stuck to ONE, I repeat ONE eyeshadow palette and instead of a separate blush, bronzer AND highlight I packed the Tarte Park Avenue Princess palette (its Ah-mazing!)… I know, I’m awesome. I did have to put my Smashbox Contour palette in too for when we go to a musical at the Opera House and out for dinners but it’s slim so we’ll let that one slide.

I decided the go with my trusty Too Faced Natural Eyes palette. It’s compact, has sturdy tin packaging so it won’t smash in my suitcase and the shadows are awesome quality and have a good mix of natural and more dramatic shades to spice things up if I’m feeling a bit snazzy. I also packed the Urban Decay Anti Ageing Primer Potion to help my eye shadow last forever.

As far as my base I chose products I know will last me all day or night and never let me down. Whenever I wear Georgio Armani’s Luminous Silk foundation I get comments on how amazing my skin looks (BOOM! It’s a foundation.. tricked ya!) so you know it’s a keeper! It also has no SPF so it won’t give any flashback at night but I can add it through my skin care during the day. I generally don’t need to powder this foundation down but I packed the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in “Ethereal Light” just in case I am extra shiny in the hot Sydney weather. For concealer, I chose to bring my Mac Cosmetics Studio Finish Concealer Duo in NW20/NC25 to cover my raccoon eyes and any spots that show up.

And last, but not least we have the brows! My favourite brow product of the moment is the Tarte Brow Mousse in medium brown. I put this baby through my brows and instantly feel like Cara Delevigne and top them off with some NARS Clear Brow Gel so they stay in place. Then I draw my Benefit High Brow underneath to clean them up and really make them stand out. #browsonfleek

See, I told you! That wasn’t too bad was it?

Photo (1) Okay, so here is where I start to struggle. I like lips and I like options. I decided on three lip liners and MAC are my favourite (but I’m always keen to try more… suggestions below please!) so I chose to bring their pro longwear lip pencil in High Energy for any red lip choices and their regular lip pencils in Dervish for my more natural choices and Whirl for, umm… It’s just a really nice lip liner okay!

For lipsticks I chose five. This was cut down from around 50 so, woohoo! Go me! I’ve got my trusty MAC Myself (limited edition – sorry!) which is one of the easiest nudes to wear and chuck on on the go, MAC’s Honey love for a nude statement lip, Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kat Moss in 45  (which we couldn’t find a link for sorry!) which is very similar to Mac’s Myself but hey, a girl can never have too many nudes, Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Moss in 32 because these Kate Moss lipsticks are heaven and this shade reminds me of Mac’s Ravishing which I have been loving this Spring and Clarins’ 704 for a beautiful summery red (see here).

For my face: I generally use my fingers for foundation because I find that melts in with my skin the best and I can get the coverage I want without going straight to cake face. For my bronzer I have packed the Zoeva 106 Powder brush to help give me a bronzy glow, I’ve got their 127 luxe sheer cheek brush which is my ALL TIME FAVOURITE blush brush… EVER! I’ve got the Real Techniques Buffing Brush to chisel out my cheekbones and the Becca Bronzer/Shimmer Fan Brush to pack on the highlight Jaclyn Hill style!

For my brows: I packed the Tarte brush that comes with their brow mousse to use the spooly to brush through my brows but as I don’t really like the brush on the end I’ve packed the Zoeva 322 Brow Line brush to carve out dem brows.

For my eyes: I tried really hard not to pack this many eye brushes but hey, a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do. So hold on tight, here we go. (All by Zoeva) I packed the 230 Luxe Pencil brush, 221 Luxe Soft Crease brush, 228 Luxe Crease brush, 142 concealer brush, 227 Luxe Soft Definer brush, 231 Luxe Petite Crease brush, 232 Luxe Classic Shader brush and the 235 Contour Shader brush.

Yay! Let’s go to Sydney! What do you always have to take away with you? J

Goodness Skincare Review

I’m always keen to try out new brands and products and a total sucker for a sale; if something is on sale my chances of buying it increase 10 fold, whether I need it or not becomes irrelevant. So when I spotted Goodness The Beauty Lab skincare range on sale at Chemist Warehouse I, of course, bought a bunch of their products. I am now on the last legs of each of those purchases, so keep reading if you’re keen to hear my thoughts.

A little side note: Goodness is a New Zealand based company focused on using the ingredient’s mother nature has given us to create great, affordable skincare Check out their website if you want to know more about this great little company! .

Every Morning Moisturiser

Photo(3)Finding a moisturiser that is both effective and natural is a pretty hard task. More often than not, by taking out all of those unpronounceable ingredients, something is taken away from the quality. Goodness have done a really great job at combating this! Ingredients such as avocado, coconut oil, and hibiscus and bilberry extracts have created a great moisturiser that works well for daily use on most skin types!

I have combination skin, leaning towards the dry side at this time of year and this products has worked really well on my skin. I have had to pop a drop or two of the Goodness chia seed oil in on particularly dry days, but to be honest I like to do that anyway to give my skin a little extra glow. Because of this I proably wouldn’t recommend it for the dry skinned gals out there, but if you’re oily/combination and looking for an effective yet light weight product then give this a go!

Chia Seed Oil

Photo(2)I had really high hopes for this product. I am a huge fan of facial oils, particularly rosehip oil, so when I saw this on the shelf and read the apparent benefits I was hoping to be blown away by my new discovery. Unfortunately I was not.

It boasts excellent hydrating qualities, and that was something I just didn’t see in practice. Other facial oils have given instant results for both hydration and the overall appearance of my skin, and the chia seed oil did neither of these things. I gave it the benefit of the doubt and thought that perhaps it might just take extended use to see results, but after a whole bottle I was just not impressed. My skin was looking dull and less nourished that before I started using the product. I have since swapped back to other oils in combination with other Goodness products, and have already seen a great improvement.

Sorry guys, chia seed oil (in my opinion) is not the new black. Big thumbs down from me. If you don’t believe me you can try it for yourself:

Every Evening Cream

PhotoThere are not too many things in life that I enjoy more than a good night cream. Lathering on a gorgeous moisturiser all over a tired face after a long day is on of my very favourite feelings. I have always been pretty loyal to my Sukin night cream, always gravitating back after trying other products, but I do believe it may have met its match!

The Goodness night cream is amazeballs. It feels truly luscious on the skin, a little bit goes a long way (something I have found with all their products) and leaves the skin feeling super hydrated without feeling oily. Chia seed oil, coconut oil, avocado and honeysuckle flower extract combine to create a truly sumptuous product and really packs a punch on tired skin. It is even slightly more creamy and hydrating than my old Sukin fave.

If I’m going to nit-pick, the only thing that perhaps has it in second place to the Sukin alternative is the price tag, at $13.69 for 60mL vs. $13.69 for 120mL (all prices from Chemist Warehouse). Other than that I am a huge fan of this night cream!

Have you tried any of the Goodness Natural Beauty Lab range? What are your thoughts?
