Aside from the brilliant play of words Tarte used in the name of this mascara (love me a pun), the Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara boasts four major qualities; Tarte says this mascara is ” a lengthening, curling, volumizing, and conditioning mascara infused with olive esters to condition, treat, and protect lashes.”
One coat of Lights Camera Lashes
So how does it deliver on those four promised features?…
Volume: 10/10 on the volume front. This baby turns it up to 11. I’m not sure how much the primer has to do with it; I have used the mascara on its own before and don’t notice much of a difference with the primer added into the equation.
Length: 8/10. Whilst it’s not the most lengthening mascara I own, it definitely provides dark pigment right to the very tip of my lashes and doesn’t wear off during the day. So all in all, it ain’t bad.
Curl: 12/10. This is my FAVOURITE mascara for giving my short lashes dat curl. I think this would be ideal for anyone that has down-turned or straight lashes as it maintains the curl throughout the whole day. Add in an eyelash curler and you’ll have curl for days.
Conditioning: ?/10. Tbh, I haven’t noticed any difference in the condition of my lashes at all. Although, I’m not really sure what I’m looking for. So imma leave this one blank. It’s not like it made my lashes worse, like they didn’t fall out or anything though so…I look for that quality in a mascara.
(little extra note from me) Colour: This is the blackest mascara I own. All the pigment baby. It is just SO black. I LOVE IT.
Stay tuned for more Mascara March! What is your favourite mascara! We are keen for any recommendations.
As you can probably tell by the picture below, this palette is very well loved. It’s one that I have recommended to so many of my friends and use pretty much every day in some way or another.
Park Avenue Princess Matte Bronzer
You’ve probably heard me rave about this bronzer before and it’s for good reason! This magical bronzer shade seems to match so many different skin tones and isn’t too warm that it can’t be used as a contour yet it’s not too cool that it makes you look muddy. I use this as an all over bronzer or as a mix between contour and bronzer. This is my absolute favourite bronzer of all time and I’ll definitely be purchasing the single pan when I feel finish off this set.
This blush, like the bronzer, seems to work on a large variety of skin tones! For me, it gives the perfect “pinched cheeks” look, which I love!
Ooh baby this highlighter is nek level! It has a slight golden undertone but still works on pale girls like me. The shimmer is so fine that it gives you such a nice lit-from-within look and you can build it up to look like a gleaming supermodel or dust it all over to make you radiate from within.
I think Tarte did extremely well with accommodating this palette to a lot of different skin tones. No, it won’t work on girls with darker skin but hopefully they’ll come out with another in the near future. This palette may be sold out but it’s sister, the Parke Avenue Princess 2 Palette, has the exact same bronzer and highlight with a slightly different, still natural, blush shade so I would definitely check that out! It’s perfect for a beginner at makeup who wants one palette to do everything or someone who, like me, loves good quality, no fuss makeup.
Aussie’s can purchase their’s here (although only vol 2 is available atm)
Valentine’s Day is just around the corner so I decided to create a look for you, perfect for a first date or a night out with your other half. Or lying in bed with 6 packets of snickers pods and Netflix – I heard that’s acceptable too.
I decided on a light purple smoky eye and a natural lip and thought I would make this a full face Tarte Cosmetics look because – well why not? I included a day and night option with the only thing you need to change being the lip colour!
To make sure my face looks flawless and lasts all day and night I used Tarte’s famous Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Full Coverage Foundation and set that with their Translucent Loose Setting Powder. I find this combination creates a natural and yet perfected finish. Using a Beauty Blender to apply both ensures you don’t go cakey.
If 2014 taught us anything it’s that no good makeup look is complete without contouring; I slimmed my face down with the bronzer from Tarte’s Rainforest After Dark palette and the smaller end of their double-ended powder brush. The bronzer is cool-toned enough to work as a contour but never leaves me looking muddy.
Bronzer and Blush:
Bronzer was next which means I got to use my all time favourite bronzer, Tarte’s Park Avenue Princess Bronzer! I have never used a bronzer that has worked so well with so many different skin tones! I absolutely lurve this bronzer and it blends out the contour perfectly!
For blush I chose their Amazonian clay blush in True Love (because it’s Valentine’s Day… lol geddit?) which is a favourite of mine too! It is a lovely fresh pink colour that looks just like my natural flush. Perfect for a date.
Can we just take a moment to appreciate the highlight from their Rainforest After Dark Palette… I have definitely not given this the attention it deserves. I’m sorry highlight, I’m back now and I’m not going anywhere. I put this on top of my cheek bones, my cupids bow, above my brow bones, on my brow bones, on the tip of my nose… Everywhere! It’s not a chunky sparkly highlight which makes it perfect to dust all over your face and it melts in to your skin no matter how much you put on!
Ok, I’ll be honest. I do have the Tarte Brow Mousse somewhere but I cannot find it ANYWHERE for the life of me! If I could I would tell you it’s absolutely magical and one of my favourite brow products ever! But alas, the brush is amazing too and worked well with the Chi Chi Bow Pomade.
This is where the fun begins. I decided to use the Rainforest After Dark palette again to create a soft mauve and gold eye that can be transformed easily from day to night for your busy date/Netflix day schedule. I started off by using aall over my mobile lid and up in to my crease and then used windscreen wiper motions with bthrough my crease to build some depth and dimension. I then used cin my outer v to lengthen my eye and give it a more ‘smoked out’ look. Then finally, to finish it off I used dall over my mobile lid and eon a wet brush in my inner corner to bring a bit of sparkle to the look.
Now we bring the eyes to life with some mascara! I used the absolutely amazing combo of the Tarte Eyelash Curler, Opening Act eyelash primer and the Lights Camera Lashes mascara and boy howdy did it make my little tiny eyelashes grow about 400x their original length.
I went with a natural, plump lip for my day-time lip so you don’t have to worry too much about reapplying after a yummy lunch or a make-out sesh. I used the Tarte Lipsurgence Matte Lip Tint in the shade Haze and the Lipsurgence Lipgloss in Kiss to plump up my lips.
For night-time I decided to go with a matte deep pink to keep with the girly look and make sure my lip would last the night’s activities. I used the Lipsurgence Matte Lip Tint in the shade Craze which I think is positively perfect.
So there you have it – my take on a romantic Valentine’s Day look. So whatever you are doing next Sunday have an amazing time and remember you are perfectly marvellous and deserve the best!
Another year has gone by and so arrives another birthday! I’m not gonna lie to you, I’m getting to the point in my life where I’d quite like to skip this birthday and press pause on the aging process for a little while. Alas! ‘tis not possible (trust me, I tried), and so I decided to give in and celebrate yet another year of my life.
Celebrations call for fun makeup looks! Generally, as a rule, I don’t like to try new looks/techniques/products on special occasions. You never know how its going to go, it could be a flat our disaster and then you’re left stressed and feeling less than perfect. Not how you should be feeling on your birthday! But with age (apparently) comes some courage! So this year M and I decided to try out a few new looks, products and techniques to achieve the makeup look for my birthday night out. I know, we’re crazy brave.
For a while now we have been meaning to try the eye-taping technique, where you use a piece of sticky tape to mark out a sharp line for your eyeshadow/eyeliner. My birthday was the day.
It worked really well! I recommend doing your foundation post-eyemakeup if you’re using this technique as the tape strips off quite a bit of coverage. However, all in all, I get the hype. It left a clean sharp line and ensured there wasn’t any shadowy fallout on the temple that can leave it looking dirty. I chose to soften it slightly with a blending brush but the look was still much more clean cut. I’ll definitely be using this technique again!
The star of the show were the eyes. We used a combination of our new Tarte Tartlette Amazonion Clay Matte Eyeshadow paletteand the Urban Decay Vice 3 Palette. We haven’t used either of these palettes much but they both really brought their A-game. I created a brown/golden eye that looked seriously amaze. Still so in love with the finished look.
Tarte Tartlette Palette
From the Tartlette palette I used the shade ‘free spirit’ as a base to set the primer and then the shade ‘force of nature’ in the crease to give the eye a bit more dimension. The shade ‘dreamer’ was used to carve out the outer v and create the almost wing-like edge (thanks to the tape!).
Urban Decay Vice 3 Palette
The combination of the two golden shades from Vice 3 (‘brokedown’ and ‘lucky’) made my heart skip a beat. The pigmentation was insane and it stayed that way. Well done Urban Decay, well done.
The rest of the face I kept pretty simple. For foundation I used my new Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid Makeup. This was the first time I had ever worn this foundation and I was pretty impressed! My skin has been beyond dry lately (painfully so) and this foundation adapted to the landscape rather well. A dash of Benefit’s Hervana on the apples of the cheeks and their Dallas bronzer for carve out dem cheekbones. To highlight (my absolute favourite part of any look!) I used a combination of MAC’s cream colour base in the shade ‘hush’ and mineralise skinfinish in the shade ‘soft and gentle’. On my lips I used my brand new (M gave it to my for my birthday, she’s the best!) Tom Ford lip colourin the shade ‘pink dusk’. The finishing touch was the Katy Perry Feline Fierce Lashes by Eyelure, which really brought together the rest of the eye look!
All in all I’m really happy with the finished look. Keeping the rest of the face simple allowed the eye look to really pop! I felt glam whilst not looking too over-done for a Thursday night.
It was fun. Birthdays are fun. Having said that…I’m in no rush for he next one to come rolling around haha
